Elaine has been trained in the Russell A. Barkley, Ph.D. behavioral management approach to ADHD.
Dr. Barkley is an internationally renowned expert and author of numerous books on this subject. Elaine has acquired extensive knowledge of ADHD and what stands behind the actions known as the executive functions (EF). These are the set of processes that have to do with managing oneself and one’s resources in order to achieve a goal. It is a clinical term for the broad set of personal skills that involve mental control and self-regulation.
Barkley explains executive function as the result of an individual’s interaction with the environment that surrounds them. Known as phenotypes in biology, these interactions don’t just end at the skin but extend outward to produce effects at considerable distances across space and time from the individual into its natural surroundings.
Elaine Lerner, MSW, CSW also specializes in working with couples and their relationships.
ADHD can have a devastating effect on relationships and lead to disappointment and frustration. You need to set realistic expectations of what can be accomplished and when it can really be accomplished. She provides couples with the tools they need to communicate effectively, building a loving and trusting relationship with systems in place for success.
